How to Break “Fast” and Have more Energy

I love talking about food, nutrition, wellness and beauty. So, I thought that, I would share how my days usually go, that keeps me full of energy, balanced, looking and feeling my best. I learned a lot of this when I studied Holistic Nutrition and Medicine at Clayton College of Natural Health. How we break our fast, from the night before is very important . Eating a healthier, lighter diet and drinking plenty of fluids, helps cleanse and nourish the body gently, so you may have more energy and clarity throughout the day. What is happening, is we are flushing out built up mucous in the body, as we consume pure liquids, high fiber fruits and veggies, during the am.

How to break a Fast

Here is my  sample of an Ideal Morning routine to cleanse the body, reduce inflammation, boost energy and jump start your day.

  • Wake up with the sun. Go to bed early enough to wake up without an alarm.
  • Sit quietly or lie up in bed, pray, meditate, deep breathing. Release any concerns or frustrations. Let things go. Visualize your day.
  • Pray, and I love reading  my bible and other spiritual books.
  • Drink 2 cups of purified water with a squeeze of lemon.
  • Yoga and deep breathing for 20-30 minutes.
  • Eat 1 or 2 pieces of fruit.
  • Go for a vigorous morning walk or weight training 30 minutes
  • Get ready for my day.
  • Eat a whole grain breakfast, I love cooked oats or quinoa.  Consume 30 – 60 minutes after the fruit.
  • Take my supplements.
  • In 1 or 2 hours, mid morning. a handful of nuts and/or seeds.

Now this depends upon any health issues you may have. So, ALWAYS TALK TO YOUR HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONER, BEFORE STARTING ANY NEW ROUTINE.

I am kidney transplant survivor and this works well for me, even when I have to p]0take medication.

I will share my Ideal Afternoon routine tomorrow, remember to always Set the Table with Love.

Go Raw Raw Chick Pate bites

I am in love with #GoRaw Organic Sprouted Watermelon Seeds. I have snacked on the bag of seeds, made a big salad with them, a smoothie and yesterday I made Vegan RAW Nut Free Basil Pesto. Here’s the thing, a lot of us can not eat nuts. I love nuts, but sometimes we do not always get along. It’s all good though, we good people. LOL.

Today I would like to share this amazing appetizer, but you can spread this on some bread and there you go, a high protein sandwich. You can also wrap it in some butter lettuce and enjoy a nice lettuce wrap. The deal is you will love the diversity of this recipe, but better than that, is the fact, it’s loaded with nutrition and plant based protein.

Remember to Set the Table with Love. Enjoy!

Sweet Potato Pecan Cranberry Pancakes ( Gluten and Dairy Free)

I love sweet potatoes. They are amazing for your skin and an overall wellbeing. They are packed out with Vitamin A, B6, C, D and also they contain iron, which is important in helping us produce red and white blood cells, keep our immunity going strong and help us to metabolize proteins.  They are also high in carotenoids, like beta carotene, which is the precursor to vitamin A in your body. Carotenoids are powerful antioxidants that can help prevent cancer and protect against the effects of aging.

Hey owning a natural and organic skin care company, that is a plus for me to eat sweet potatoes. lol.

Last night I made my family their favorite, Sweet Potato Soufflé, some people call it Sweet Potato Pound, but mine is so light and fluffy my husband calls it a soufflé.  I did a new spin on my original recipe. I made it Vegan. I did not tell my family until after they ate it. My husband was so surprised and said, “Honey I like this version better.” SCORE!!

My diet is 90% vegetarian, vegan and raw. I am still working on my boys, but little by little they are coming around. They ate almost the whole pot. I went to look in the fridge and noticed there was only about a cup and a half of Sweet Potato Soufflé left, it gave me an idea; Sweet Potato Pecan Cranberry Pancakes for breakfast!

This is a throw together recipe but I think this is what I did to create these yummy Vegan pancakes. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. This will be my second Vegan recipe I will try on my boys next week. LOL.

First thing First, my recipe for Sweet Potato Soufflé

6 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and chopped into big cubes

3/4 cup almond milk ( unsweetened )

1/2 cup organic coconut oil

1/2 organic honey ( you can use maple syrup, but my son is allergic)

1 tbsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp lemon juice

1/4 tsp sea salt

Directions:
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add potatoes and cook until tender, 20 to 30 minutes.
With an electric mixer on low, blend potatoes, slowly adding milk, about 1/2 a cup at a time. Use more or less to achieve desired texture. Add coconut oil and honey or maple syrup to taste. Blend until smooth. Serve warm.

Sweet Potato Pecan Cranberry Pancakes

1 1/2 cup Sweet Potato Soufflé

1 cup organic gluten-free oats ( process a 1/2 cup into flour, put the rest to the side)

1 tbsp organic coconut oil

1/2 cup dried cranberries

1/4 cup pecans, chopped

pinch of salt, to taste

Directions:

In a large bowl combine the sweet potatoes, floured oats, cranberries, pecans and salt until well incorporated. Add the remaining gluten free oats and stir. This should give the pancakes a nice oat coating. If you need more oats just add a little at a time until you get the desire consistency. In a sauté pan add the coconut oil to a medium heat. Shape the mixture into the desired size of pancakes you would like. Add to the oil and cook until golden brown on each side. Mines took about 2-3 minutes on each side. Plate and drizzle with a little honey or maple syrup.

Enjoy and Remember no matter what your table looks like Set it with Love.

RAW Caramel Apple Pie with an Oatmeal Cinnamon Topping

Who doesn’t love Apple Pie. It’s Fall ! A girl needs a little apple pie in her life during these autumn months. I love eating healthy but it must taste delicious. I bought a ton of apples a few days ago at my local Sprouts store. My intention was to juice these apples and yes I will sometime later this week but I was craving something a little more decadent.

So here is my version on a RAW Caramel Apple pie. Enjoy!! This pie is loaded with vegan based protein, courtesy of Georgia Grinders Nut Butters. I used there delicious NaturAlmond  Almond Flour Meal to make the crust. I also added a little of there NaturAlmond Almond butter inside my Raw Caramel sauce.

This pie is always an awesome go to when you are detoxing and want something sweet and healing for the body.  If I  have any leftover, I put a whole slice in my Ninja with a little almond milk and it makes an incredible apple pie smoothie. Hope you enjoy this recipe and Remember to always Set the Table with Love.

1 cup NaturAlmond Almond Flour meal

2 cups raisins

1 teaspoon of red sea salt or sea salt

Caramel Sauce

1 cup raisins

2 tbsp NaturAlmond Butter

1 tsp melted coconut oil

1 tsp distilled water

1 tbsp pure maple syrup

1 vanilla bean

generous pinch of salt

2 cups of water to soak the raisins

Filling

3 fuji apples diced

2 granny smith apples diced

2 tbsp cinnamon

1 tbsp lemon juice

a little sea salt to taste

To make the crust

Pulse the oats, almond meal and sea salt in a food processor until it forms a course flour. Slowly add the raisins into the processor in small batches to mix with the oat flour. This will bind your crust. If it is too dry, you can add a little water. You do not want a sticky dough. Press the dough into the bottom of a floured (Use a little of the almond meal to flour the tart pan) tart pan or pie pan. Shaping the dough to the tart or pie pan. Set aside in the fridge, to firm up about 30 minutes.

To make the caramel sauce

First soak the raisin for at least 2 hours. Hang on to the soaking water as you will need this to later, just in case  you want to make a sauce that is more pourable you will need the water to achieve this.

Drain the water from the raisins.  Add all the ingredients except for the soaking water to a blender. Blitz for about 2 minutes until everything is creamy and smooth. Add the water a little at a time to get the desired consistency.

To make the apple filling

Placed the cut apples into a large bowl. Toss with cinnamon, salt and the caramel. Leave a little caramel  to pour over the top of the apple pi, if desired.  Remove the crust from the fridge and fill it with the apple filling, top with the remaining caramel sauce and oatmeal and cinnamon topping.

To make the oatmeal cinnamon topping

1 1/2 cup gluten free oatmeal

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp of maple syrup

pinch of sea salt

Mix the ingredients into a bowl and sprinkle over top of the pie. Serve and Enjoy.
