Love, what’s the problem?

,

“Love is not complicated, we are.”
Lisa Washington

I wrote this 6 years ago, a quote from my book Whispers of Silence.
But here is the heart and my place of growth from which this quote was birth.
“Love is not complicated, we are” — speaks to a profound truth about human nature and relationships.

🦋🦋💙
Love in Its Purest Form
At its core, love is simple. It’s a natural expression of connection, care, compassion, and presence. Love flows easily when it’s not obstructed — like a river unblocked by debris. It is generous, forgiving, and life-giving. In the purest sense, love doesn’t require conditions or performative acts. It simply is.
🦋🦋🦋
Where the Complication Begins
The complication arises not from love itself but from us — our fears, insecurities, expectations, past wounds, and unmet needs. We filter love through personal experiences, emotional baggage, and societal narratives that tell us how love should look, feel, or behave.
🦋🦋🦋
We complicate love when we:
• Try to control or possess it.
• Attach our self-worth to how it’s received.
• Use it as a transaction rather than a gift.
• Expect it to heal what we haven’t faced within ourselves.

🦋🦋🦋
The Inner Mirror
Often, what we call “complicated love” is a reflection of our internal conflict. The ways we resist vulnerability, avoid emotional honesty, or fear abandonment all shape the way we give and receive love. In this way, we are the ones who bring complexity to something that, at its essence, is beautifully uncomplicated.
🦋🦋🦋
The Invitation
I feel this quote invites us to pause and reflect: What if love isn’t the problem? What if the real work is in clearing the clutter within ourselves so we can allow love to do what it does best — connect, heal, and transform?
🦋🦋🦋
It’s not about simplifying love; it’s about simplifying ourselves — returning to authenticity, practicing self-awareness, and learning to show up without the masks.
Love and Peace 🦋

About Me

Hi, I am Lisa. I am learning every day how to love up on this beautiful gift of living, cherishing each moment as it comes. Especially because at 38 I was dying, and now I am 55 years old, I have gained a deeper appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. I’m married to my wonderful husband of 30 years, who not only supports me through thick and thin but has also selflessly served as my kidney donor, a true testament to his love and commitment. Together, we have raised two incredible kids, aged 38 and 25, and I delight in watching them thrive. Our family has expanded beautifully with two grandkids who fill our lives with joy, a lovely daughter-in-law who has seamlessly joined our family, and a grand fur baby who adds warmth to our home. Here you will find life, food, and how I set the table with love for myself, my friends, and my family, creating cherished memories around meals that go beyond nourishment. I hope it inspires you to love up on your life a bit more and encourage you to surround your table with love, laughter, and the people you hold dear. We get one go at this precious journey, so let’s make it something deliciously beautiful, savoring each bite along the way. Thanks for stopping by; your presence adds to the warmth of this shared experience.
