Because sometimes the sweetest moments happen around a cup of coffee and something homemade.
There is something about fall that makes me want to slow down, turn on the oven, and fill my home with the comforting aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg, and freshly baked treats.
During the fall, I find myself baking something almost every week. Not necessarily for a special occasion or a gathering I’ve planned, but simply because I love having something homemade waiting in the kitchen.
You never know when someone might stop by for tea or coffee.
And sometimes, I find myself wrapping up a few treats to take to a friend who could use a little encouragement.
I’ve always believed that food is about so much more than what we eat. It’s about how we make people feel. It’s an invitation to sit a little longer, share what’s on our hearts, laugh about life, or simply enjoy being in each other’s company.
Sometimes love looks like a beautifully prepared meal. Other times, it looks like two pieces of biscotti and a warm cup of coffee.
This Week in My Kitchen
This week, I decided to make Pumpkin Spice Biscotti with a Sea Salt Maple Glaze and Crushed Pecans.
I love biscotti because it’s one of those simple, rustic treats that feels a little special without requiring too much fuss.
It’s crisp, lightly sweet, and perfect for dipping into a hot cup of coffee or tea. The warm pumpkin pie spices give it that unmistakable fall flavor, while the maple glaze adds just enough sweetness. A sprinkle of flaky sea salt balances everything, and the crushed pecans add a delicious little crunch.

And the best part? Biscotti keeps beautifully, making it perfect for sharing throughout the week.
Of course, the real question is whether there will be any left to share by tomorrow!
Pumpkin Spice Biscotti with Sea Salt Maple Glaze and Crushed Pecans
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Bake Time: 35 minutes
Cooling and Decorating: 30 minutes
Yield: Approximately 24 biscotti

Ingredients
For the Biscotti
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- ½ teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
For the Sea Salt Maple Glaze
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 1–2 teaspoons milk, as needed
- Pinch of flaky sea salt
- ¼ cup crushed pecans
Instructions
1. Prepare the oven.
Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Combine the dry ingredients.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and pumpkin pie spice.
3. Mix the wet ingredients.
In a separate bowl, beat the sugar, softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until mostly smooth. A few small pieces of butter are perfectly fine.
4. Make the dough.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms.
5. Shape the biscotti.
Divide the dough into two equal portions. Shape each into a flattened log approximately 8 inches long and 2–3 inches wide. Place both logs onto the prepared baking sheet.
6. First bake.
Bake for approximately 25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and small cracks begin forming on top.
7. Slice.
Remove from the oven and allow the logs to cool for about 10 minutes. Using a serrated bread knife, carefully cut each log diagonally into ½-inch slices.
8. Second bake.
Arrange the slices cut-side down on the baking sheet. Bake for 5 minutes, flip, and bake for another 5 minutes, until golden and crisp.
9. Cool completely.
Transfer the biscotti to a cooling rack before glazing.
Make the Sea Salt Maple Glaze
In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and maple syrup. Add milk a little at a time until the glaze reaches a smooth, drizzleable consistency.
Drizzle over the cooled biscotti, sprinkle with flaky sea salt, and finish with crushed pecans.
Allow the glaze to set before serving or packaging.

A Few Tips from My Kitchen
- For extra crunch: Toast the pecans lightly before sprinkling them over the glaze.
- For crispier biscotti: Add a few extra minutes to the second bake, watching carefully to prevent burning.
- For gifting: Place completely cooled biscotti in a decorative bag or small bakery box with a handwritten note.
- For storing: Keep unglazed biscotti in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. Glazed biscotti are best enjoyed within a few days.
The Beauty of Having Something to Share
I think we’ve become so accustomed to needing a reason to gather that sometimes we forget the beauty of simply opening our doors.
Not every gathering needs a perfectly set table, an elaborate menu, or even an invitation.
Sometimes it’s enough to say, “I just made coffee. Would you like to come over?”
And sometimes the people we love don’t need advice or answers. They just need a place where they feel welcomed, seen, and cared for.
That’s one of the reasons I love baking during this season. It gives me another small opportunity to extend kindness.
A few homemade cookies, a slice of cake, or a piece of biscotti might seem like such a simple thing. But simple gestures have a beautiful way of reminding people that they’re thought of.
A Little Something to Think About
As you move through this season, consider keeping a little something on hand to share.
It doesn’t have to be homemade. It doesn’t have to be elaborate. And it certainly doesn’t have to be perfect.
What matters is the heart behind it.
Maybe there’s a neighbor you’ve been meaning to check on, a friend who has had a difficult week, or someone you haven’t sat down with in far too long.
Invite them over. Put the kettle on. Pour the coffee. Share something sweet.
Because sometimes the most meaningful moments in life happen when we make room for one another.
And isn’t that what setting the table with love is really all about?
